Oldest moving company in Boston shares advice for how to pack for a move.
Humboldt Storage and Moving has tips for those packing up to move during the busy summer months.
While all moves are stressful, arguably the most stressful element to moving is packing up valuables and belongings. The summer months are the busiest in the moving season, and moving companies are more apt to be stretched during the busy season. To avoid any added pressure or stress, the expert’s at Humboldt Storage and Moving have gathered some helpful packing tips to help avoid the headaches of packing. Here are some suggestions:
-The process of packing should be started immediately after a family or individual knows they are moving. This should provide ample time to pack away all goods and ensure all valuables are packed correctly.
-For heavy items, use small boxes. Using small boxes for individual heavy items helps even out weight distribution making it easier to pick up and transport.
-For lighter items, use larger boxes. Lighter, larger items, like sheets or clothes, should
be packed in larger boxes. The light-weight items ion won’t cause any stress on the larger boxes, making them less likely to break.
-Wrap fragile belongings in news print. Newsprint should not be confused with newspaper. News print is the best material to wrap belongings in. Using printed newspaper can result in ink smudging on your items. Make sure to wrap all items individually.
-Use ywrfnu special boxes provided by the moving company. Humboldt Moving and Storage uses a number of specialized boxes such as book boxes, dish pack boxes and wardrobe boxes. Book boxes are used for small heavy items and if moving clothing, wardrobe boxes are used to transport them while still on the hanger. Dish pack boxes are constructed of double corrugated sides, allowing them to handle the extra weight of dishware and other kitchen items.
“Packing for a move takes a lot of time, and it’s very stressful. People underestimate the time involved with packing all of your valuables and goods,” says Jim Sullivan, President of Humboldt Storage and Moving. “Planning ahead by taking inventory of your home and cutting down on the amount of items needing to be moved can make for a less stressful moving day.”
