If you're going to Cambridge, what is there to do when you get there?
The famous Cambridge colleges of Cambridge University are world renowned. Surely the best way to see them is to take a relaxing punt ride with an experienced local guide?
What many visitors to Cambridge are unaware of is the fact that punting along the river is not just the best way but also, practically the only way to get a good view of all of these famous Cambridge colleges. There is no tow path along the banks and because the land is all privately owned by the colleges, you cannot follow the course of the river through the city centre on foot.
Each Cambridge college charges an admission fee to visitors, the combined cost of which is normally more than the price of a ticket for a punt tour. On top of this, the colleges are often closed to visitors at certain times of the year, such as when the students have exams.
Whilst there are one or two very large and well known punt companies in Cambridge these are not the only option. I prefer to chose the experience and knowledge that a small, independently owned and locally staffed business can provide. The more personal approach really adds to the experience for me.
Almost a decade ago, two punt chauffeurs with many years of experience of punting in Cambridge established their own business - Cambridge River Tour.
Originally aiming at offering tours on the smaller traditional six person punts and catering for couples and small groups they now run a fleet of punts and are able to take any groups.
Experienced chauffeurs provide a high quality, bespoke and above all personal service.
Whether you are a one time or a regular visitor, punting in Cambridge is something that everyone should do at least once in their life times. Make sure you remember your trip for all the right reasons.
Groups of any size can be catered for, from individuals and couples to large tour groups, hen parties and any one else who wants an enjoyable trip along the river.
Using their years of experience of punting in Cambridge they have expanded from offering tours on the smaller traditional punts to also include the 12 person or ferry punts as they are known.
