Formspring Hack Puts Password Management Back In The Spotlight

My1login urge internet users to protect their online identities following the latest password hacking incident.

July 11, 2012 - PRLog -- The CEO of online password management service my1login has urged all internet users to take immediate action to protect their online identities following another high-profile password hacking incident this week.

Formspring, a question-and-answer site popular among young adults, became the latest victim of a malicious password hack on Tuesday, with more than 400,000 users having their data breached.

This follows a spate of major incidents last month, which saw users of LinkedIn, Lastfm and eHarmony fall victim to password hackers, affecting a combined total of more than 8 million online accounts.

Mike Newman, CEO of my1login, said: “These kinds of incidents have an unnecessarily huge impact because the majority of internet users have not woken up to the need to change their online behaviour.

“For example, millions of individuals and businesses still use the same simple password across all their social media, email and online banking accounts. In 2012, that's the equivalent of going on holiday and leaving the keys of your house under the doormat."

In light of these recent password security scares, my1login’s password generator, available on their site, can help create strong passwords to enhance login security.

my1login is a cloud-based password manager that enables users to access all of their password-protected accounts and sites from any device, with only one login.  It completely eliminates the need to memorise multiple usernames and passwords at the same time helping users increase their online security by generating long complex passwords for each individual account.

Mike Newman said: “These recent hacking incidents are pushing password management more into mainstream consciousness. We’re seeing consumer demand for our service increasing on a daily basis. By the end of 2012, I expect ‘password management’ solutions to be as familiar a concept as ‘virus scanning’ among online consumers.”

My1login has published advice on its blog for anyone who thinks that they may have been affected by a password hacking incident.
