July 6, 2012 - PRLog -- Burlington, VT – Vermont-based non-profit, People Helping People Global, is putting on the First Annual Brain Freezer 5K on July 14th. The Brain Freezer 5K challenges racers to run 3.1 miles and eat a pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream half-way through the race. There will be over 200 participants, and over $2,000 will be raised for PHPG’s micro-lending program.

Racers will start in Battery Park and race to the Church Street Marketplace, where they will stop in front of Ben & Jerry’s and City Sports to eat their pint of ice cream. The racers will then head through North Burlington and back to Battery Park for the finish.

There are three different categories: Competitor, Fun Runner, and Supporter. Competitors must eat the entire pint during the race. Fun Runners may eat part of the pint, give it away to a friend, or have it afterwards. Supporters don’t run the race, but they receive a t-shirt. There will be prizes for top finishers and best dressed. There is also a team competition.

The race starts at 10am and registration/packet pick-up begins at 8am. Shirts are guaranteed for individuals who register by July 5th. The Brain Freezer 5K is still open for registrations, so visit http://brainfreezer5k.com to sign up or to find out more details. There will be race day registration, but the field will be limited to 250 racers.
A big thanks goes out to all of the Brain Freezer 5K sponsors, especially the main event sponsor, Fleet Feet Sports, and the other high-level sponsors, City Sports, Ben & Jerry’s, Hannaford, and Boloco.
