St. Louis Top Photographer, Rick Forrestal Covered World Barista Championship In Vienna Austria

June 21, 2012 - PRLog -- St. Louis--Rick Forrestal a St. Louis top photographer, was chosen to photographically cover the 2012 World Barista Championships. He has just returned with the results and photos.

The celebrated event was a 4-day competition which attracted an estimated 15,000 attendees, and featured national competitors from 58 countries.  Each barista competed before 8 technical and sensory judges, leading to the semi-finals and finals events.  In addition to awarding best barista titles, additional competitions awarded honors to the Brewer's Cup (best filtered coffee), Roaster's Challenge (best roasted beans), World Cup Tasters (most accurate distinguishing coffee varieties), and Cesve/Ibrik competition (ancient Turkish brewing technique.)

The top three World Barista Champions were:

First Place: Raul Rodas, Guatemala
Second Place: Fabrizio Ramirez, Mexico
Third Place: Colin Harmon, Ireland

This annual world event began in 2000 in Monte Carlo, Monaco, and travels to a different world capital each year. Forrestal covered the event in 2011 in Bogotá, Colombia, where he lived . . . and was now hired to shoot the events at this 3-day competition in Vienna, Austria from June 13-15, 2012

The World Barista Championship will be held at the Messe Wien Exhibition Center, on the Danube. Winners of each national barista championship in their respective countries will compete for the world title. Competitors prepare and serve 12 coffee beverages -- four espresso, four cappuccino, and four signature drinks for four sensory judges.
This world event is owned and organized jointly by the Specialty Coffee Association of America and the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe. A major coffee trade show will be held in conjunction with the competition.

Forrestal had lived in Colombia for 2 years, while shooting photography and advertising images for the Colombia Coffee Growers Federation (Juan Valdez), and is no stranger to world fine coffees.
