By: StaffUnity The system was created and developed by graphic designer, Tim Clarke, after a personal experience with a co-worker led him to the idea. “I was having difficulty getting an important project completed with a fellow employee in another department, so our managers suggested that the two of us get together for lunch,” Clarke said. “After a single meeting, we were able to get to know each other personally, and our work relationship improved immensely. Immediately following that meeting, I imagined what kind of impact this could have on a company’s overall morale, if this experience could be multiplied hundreds of times.” The company’s website contains an interactive calculator showing how a small staff can experience hundreds of new connections in one year by using the service. The proprietary system was designed to create lunch groups based on a past meeting archive, thereby ensuring unique matches whenever possible. Participating employees who accept an email invite are entered into a pool and matched in groups of 2-4 to meet at a designated time and place. The web-based program is administered by a single employee and runs automatically after a quick initial setup. All employees are entered into the database and can permanently opt-out with a single click. Incentives for employees to participate, such as free movie tickets or paid lunches, can be directed easily by using the built-in random drawing buttons. Clarke said he believes, “A connected staff leads to better communication and productivity which benefits the company and its employees.” End
