May 15, 2012 - PRLog -- Two Surrey schoolchildren have won the chance to star alongside Richard E. Grant following an X-Factor-style competition for Triqueta, a new show that has been described as ‘War of the Worlds meets Riverdance’ and debuts at Guildford Cathedral on Saturday 16 June.

Thalia Edwards, nine, from Peaslake and Meg Ganjou, 10, from East Clandon, beat over 100 auditionees hoping to win their chance to star on stage with one of the UK’s most iconic actors following a weekend of auditions at G Live.

The auditions were headed up by a panel of three including the show’s creator and composer, Joe O’Connor, and TV’s Zoe Tyler (BBC’s ‘How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?’ and ‘Any Dream Will Do’, ITV’s Loose Women). The panel provided auditionees with a five-minute slot to sing a song of their choice, which included classics such as ‘Castle On A Cloud’ and contemporary hit ‘Someone Like You’ by Adele.

On being selected, Thalia, who goes to St Catherine’s, comments: “I was really, really excited when I was told that I had won a part in the show and I can’t wait to perform on stage again. I play in an orchestra sometimes so it will be really nice to sing alongside one this time.”

Thalia and Meg will now play ‘Morganna’ and ‘Meg’ respectively when the show opens at Guildford before embarking on a UK cathedral-only tour.

Triqueta follows the heritage of the Celts from its dawn to the present day and promises a night of adventure, colour and spectacle. It features its own 40-piece orchestra, a rock band plus the lead guitarist from Son’s of Icarus and a full choir and supporting cast of dancers and singers.

Surrey composer, Joe O’Connor, adds: “The number of entrants was overwhelming and the auditions attracted such a high calibre of talent that we selected two candidates instead of one, which was the initial plan. Thalia and Meg have a natural ability, their vocal range is a perfect fit for Triqueta and they will compliment each other on stage. All that remains now is four weeks of rehearsals and hard work before the show makes its debut. I’m really pleased for Thalia and Meg and look forward to seeing them perform on stage in June.”

Triqueta also stars fellow audition panelist Zoe Tyler as lead vocalist, Lumina the laser violinist, the world-class aerial act Valerie, Andrew Playfoot, Neil Couperthwaite, Shonna Damms and Jacqueline Hughes (Wicked).

Richard E. Grant, who will be taking to the stage as the show’s narrator, comments: “Triqueta is a masterful blend of Celtic heritage that in one night creates a spectacle for the senses. The show is underpinned by a strong narrative and captivating music, which push the boundaries and takes the audience on a celebration of rich history, incredible stories and the magic of creation.”
