May 12, 2012 - PRLog -- West of the Moon held its first annual “Mom and Kid Class” at its new Oswego location.  The school was packed with moms eager to experience their first martial arts class alongside their kids.  As many of the moms discovered, martial arts wasn’t as easy as they thought, but it was a lot easier than childbirth.

The hour-long class consisted of some basic martial arts instruction with the kids acting as coaches for their moms.  In addition to learning basic strikes, blocks and self-defense, the kids were challenged to compete against their moms in several group exercises.

One mom, Jenn Lindsay, took the class with her two girls that have been members since the school opened back in November.  “I really enjoyed how the class was fast-paced, fun and gave me an opportunity to participate with my kids,” Lindsay said.
At the end of the class, the students surprised their moms with roses and had their picture taken together.  Each mom received two prints of the picture to take home with them.

The class was taught by school owner and 4th degree black belt Nick Zorn.  “This was a great way to celebrate all of the dedicated moms we have at our school,” Zorn said.

For the entire month of May, moms are able to train in the beginner classes for free.  After taking their sixth class in May, moms receive a free uniform.  Also in May, West of the Moon is offering a “Mom’s Self-Defense” class geared towards prevention and breakaway self-defense techniques.
