West of the Moon ATA participates at Fall Into Fitness Fundraiser at YIS
West of the Moon ATA participated in the "Fall Into Fitness" fundraiser at Yorkville Intermediate School this past Thursday (October 4th) from 5:00-8:00p.
The W.O.T.M. booth was staffed by owner Nick Zorn and student Molly Green. In addition to providing information to parents, they offered kids a piece of candy after they agreed to roll a set of dice. On one dice, there were different exercises. On the other dice, there were numbers. After rolling both, the child had to perform the exercise and repetitions they rolled.
Kids were also able to practice basic Taekwondo kicks and punches on pads. There were several students that came by with prior martial arts experience and were able to demonstrate some of the techniques they'd learned.
Later in the night, Mr. Zorn held rebreakable boards and taught students a "palm heel strike," which is one of the simplest board breaks for novice students to break. After hearing kids yelling and seeing boards fly apart, it didn't take long for a crowd to form. Mr. Bjork, principal at Yorkville Intermediate School, was pulled over to break a real wood board. The kids were absolutely blown away when he snapped it in half!
Everyone that stopped by the W.O.T.M. booth received a coupon good for 4 weeks of classes and a uniform for only $49. "Taekwondo is an excellent way for kids to stay in shape over the winter, and it also helps improve their disciple and focus," Zorn said.
