May 9, 2012 - PRLog -- A two-hour family play called A Fiery Knights Tale is being held at the historic attraction on Saturday June 2 and Sunday June 3.

Actors will be drawn from the audience to play kings and knights, storm castles and sing songs.

An official re-opening event will then be held on Saturday June 16 complete with a medieval tournament and re-enactments. The event will include medieval sports, live music, fire juggling, storytelling and arts and crafts .

Everyone is invited to explore the completed conservation work which will make the medieval maze of deep vaults, secret staircases and banqueting halls open to the public for the first time in many years.

Swansea Council is behind the conservation of the castle for future generations to enjoy thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Welsh Government through Cadw, the European Regional Development Fund and Visit Wales.

Visitors will be able to discover the depths of the central block cellars for the very first time and enjoy interpretation that's being added to tell the hidden stories of the people who have lived in and visited the castle,  including a visit from King Edward I in 1284.

New visitor facilities,  and a 30-foot high glass viewing platform and bridge that leads to Alina's Chapel were introduced in time for the re-opening last summer.

The Friends of Oystermouth Castle are actively supporting the ongoing works and are recruiting new volunteers to take part with events and activities at the castle.

Andrea Clenton, Swansea Council’s Project Development and Funding Manager, said: “This is going to be a summer to remember at Oystermouth Castle. The conservation works will be complete and our partners deserve to be commended for all their help, enthusiasm and encouragement throughout the scheme.

“The range of medieval-themed events will transport the castle back to its heyday and will offer fun for all the family.

“I’d urge people to check out the Oystermouth Castle website for regular updates and a run-down of what’s happening this summer.”
