Summer is such a wonderful time to get outside, go to the cottage, and visit friends. Stay safe and protect yourself against summer injuries. Sunburns, insect bites, poison ivy, bumps, bruises and scrapes are very common when we are more relaxed in the summer. The best thing you can do is have a first aid kit on hand. “Less than 20% of Canadians have first aid kit at their cottage” says Ontario paramedic Shannon Koppenhoefer .Kits come in all sizes-chose the one best for you and travel with it. Make sure to fill out the emergency contact index card. If you plan to be out all day take water bottle and snacks along with your travel-sized first aid kit. St. John's Ambulance and other organizations provide wonderful first aid kits of all sizes. Training classes are also available throughout the year and may be invaluable one day! “A little preparation can help make the difference between an emergency and a minor problem.” Enjoy your summer to the fullest!
