Red Sails Inn: A San Diego Breakfast Favorite!

Located on Shelter Island in the Point Loma area of San Diego lies a favorite restaurant for breakfast. Sitting on the patio is a great way to enjoy a lazy Sunday morning with breakfast and a great view of luxury yachts docked a few feet away.

May 3, 2012 - PRLog -- Although the Red Sails Inn in Point Loma is primarily a San Diego seafood restaurant, it has gained a reputation as a favorite San Diego breakfast restaurant as well. Located on Shelter Island the restaurant sports a beautiful patio where locals like to hang out with a mix of yachts and seagulls. People gather here for breakfast on the weekend to enjoy the good food and excellent service as well as the beautiful setting.

The restaurant opened in 1957 under the ownership of Jack Davis and was purchased in 1962 by Rick Hills and Jack Dargitz. The current owner, Bill Dargitz relocated 18 years ago from Seattle and eventually took over full ownership of the restaurant. Moving from the Seattle area was difficult at first, but Bill says now that he has fully adapted and become a true San Diegan.

The restaurant has a peculiar layout in that when you first enter you walk through a full service bar to get to the restaurant itself.  The dining area is large and well-appointed in a 1970’s look and from there you can continue on to the patio, weather permitting. Sometimes sitting outside on the water can be a little chilly for some so the dining room is a good alternative.

The reviews on places like Google, Yelp, and Urbanspoon can vary because everyone’s taste is a bit different, but in general, the reviews are very positive. The concierges at the hotels in the area highly recommend the restaurant as a great place to go and the tourists always thank them for the tip.

The restaurant offers a Sunset Special on the menu Sunday-Thursday which varies.  They may offer Macadamia nut crusted Sole or a Charbroiled Steak. Not everyone likes seafood so the menu is designed to offer something for everyone.

Serving the freshest fish is important and is what has people coming back. In addition, they offer an early bird special daily from 4-7 as well as a happy hour, Monday-Friday from 2-6. The local fishermen love this since their days work starts early and they get off early and want to enjoy a good happy hour.

The restaurant is just a regular place with a 1970’s feel and a spectacular view from the patio, but it is one of those places that you’ll be glad you visited while in San Diego. If you’re a local, you should get to know the Red Sails Inn yourself. Enjoying the great food and view from the patio will keep you coming back and bringing your friends.
