Minis go large at Silverstone Auctions' Spring Sale

May 2, 2012 - PRLog -- They may be small in nature but the four Minis offered for auction at The Spring Sale hosted by Silverstone Auctions on 16th May know how to punch above their weight!

One of the first entries is an extremely rare 1965 Morris Mini Cooper S 970 (Lot 142), which actually came second in class at the 1969 Welsh International Rally, having led for most of the event.

The current owner continued rallying the car across the UK throughout the 1970s and approximately ten years ago it underwent a comprehensive bare metal restoration back to original road specification using the original rebuilt engine, gearbox and Cooper S components. It is estimated at between £25,000 to £30,000.

Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions, said: “This particular Cooper S can be enjoyed as a road car or returned to its former period rally specification for any number of coveted historic events. It’s sure to attract a lot of interest when it goes under the hammer.”

Meanwhile, another Morris Mini Cooper S from 1970 (Lot 108) is estimated at between £12,500 to £15,000. Not only has it been in the same ownership since 1988 but has also been the subject of an expert restoration.

Included in the car’s history file is a full photographic record of the rebuild.

Nick added: “Minis have always sold well at our previous auctions so we expect these fine examples to follow suit. Enthusiasts appreciate that they are a great investment for the future as well as offering many miles of happy motoring.”

Other Minis for auction include a 1969 Austin Mini 1000 Mk2 to Cooper S Monte Carlo Rally spec model (lot 117) and a 1967 Morris Mini Mk 1 (lot 121).

However, the variety of lots under the hammer at The Spring Sale at Silverstone couldn’t be much greater. Cars include motorsport and classic entries, and there’s also a vast array of automobilia – all making it a must attend event for motorsport enthusiasts and collectors alike.
