Plan a super summer holiday in Suffolk

April 19, 2012 - PRLog -- Easter may have only just been and gone, but if you’re a parent you’ll already be thinking about what to do with the kids over the long summer holiday.

For many people, holidays equal going abroad, but if you would like to stay a little closer to home this year, why not plan a family package holiday in Suffolk?  You may be surprised to discover all the hidden gems that the county has to offer – it really has the best of all worlds with fabulous beaches, beautiful countryside and historic towns to explore.

If we’re lucky enough to be blessed with good weather this year, going to the seaside is sure to be top of your list of things to do.  Suffolk has some outstanding Blue Flag beaches such as in Southwold where the kids can play in the sand to their hearts’ content – while mum and dad might be tempted to visit some of the boutiques which line the high street.  And everyone is sure to enjoy some fish and chips or ice cream after a lovely day in the sunshine.

Other notable beaches in Suffolk include the unspoilt Kessingland as well as family destinations Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth and Felixstowe – so you’re bound to find somewhere that suits the whole family.

Once you’re all beached out, you might like a trip to Jimmy’s Farm in Ipswich where you’ll all have a great day out.  Amongst the features are a peaceful woodland walk, adventure play area and beautiful gardens, while you can also buy free range meats as well as herbs and vegetables.  This working farm is open seven days a week.

For other nature pursuits, pay a visit to RSPB Minsmere, one of the society’s most famous nature reserves.  You’ll be able to see avocets, bitterns, teals and black tailed godwits on the nature trails through heath, woodland and sand dunes.

If you’re trying to inject a bit of culture into your children’s lives, take them to archaeological site Sutton Hoo in Woodbridge.  This 245 acre estate is the site of a 90 ft ship-burial of an Anglo Saxon king, which has been called the first page of English history. Visitors can enjoy Anglo Saxon themed events, open air theatre and children’s trails. Like RSPB Minsmere, you can do some serious bird watching at Sutton Hoo, too.

For your Suffolk family package holiday, you may consider camping in one of the plethora of campsites situated throughout the county.  It’s a cheap and cheerful way to spend your holiday and is a great chance for your kids to get out and enjoy themselves in the fresh air during the break

There are also lots of family-friendly hotels in Suffolk, many of which offer special deals on sharing rooms throughout the holiday season.  Lots of hotels also have packages with nearby tourist attractions, so you can get money off the ticket prices – perfect if you’re holidaying on a budget.
