April 9, 2012 - PRLog -- Santa Barbara, Calif.: Gary Piattoni knows what it’s like to stand in front of a television camera and appraise antiques that people may only know minimal details about. For more than 10 years, he’s been an appraiser on a renowned television series. And in his experience, you never know whether a watch passed down from generation to generation or a beautiful watercolor painting bought at a local flea market will turn out to have more than just sentimental value. Now, Piattoni is coming to Santa Barbara and lending his vast expertise to nearly 100 area seniors, who are hoping to discover the value of their special treasures and history behind their family heirlooms.

Valle Verde, a continuing care retirement community in the heart of Santa Barbara, will be hosting an Antiques and Heirlooms appraisal event for invited guests on Wednesday, April 18, at 2 p.m.

“This is the perfect event for someone wondering if something they own — a vintage photograph, an old doll, a piece of pottery, or perhaps a first-edition book — is worth more than just sentimental value. We’re delighted to bring Gary Piattoni to Santa Barbara to share his wealth of knowledge with us, and we’re looking forward to the many surprises he has in store for us throughout the day,” said Tim Wetzel, executive director for Valle Verde.

According to Piattoni, his favorite part of the sessions, more than discovering the value of items, is sharing the history behind family heirlooms and favorite treasures, along with taking questions from the audience.

“This event is just one example of the many fun and educational programs we offer at Valle Verde,” said Wetzel.
