April 6, 2012 - PRLog -- Author G. A. Boyd has published “Alchemy Jones and the Source of Magic”, which is his first book. It is now available to readers in print and other eBook formats worldwide on book retailer websites such as iUniverse, Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Reminiscent of Terry Brooks’s style, yet with his own unique voice, Gregory spins a finely-written story with believable and likeable characters and notoriously evil villains and creepy creatures in a plot that will keep readers riveted. The first book of this epic series introduces readers to the newest hero of YA fantasy—twelve-year-old Alchemy Jones. Science professor Wally Fargle, affectionately known as O' Gray One to his students, takes the new pupil Zachary Jones—whose resemblance to an overgrown leprechaun brings an onslaught of teasing from other students—under his wing at Da Vinci's Middle School for Achievers in Salem, Massachusetts. Highly gifted in science, Zack proves to be everything the professor hopes, or more importantly, the shadowy League of Imaginary Scientists which Wally belongs, hopes for. Unbeknownst to Wally, there is a secret tied to the boy with the blood-red hair, an arcane one that begins to manifest in his classroom science experiments.

Things escalate when the boy's parents mysteriously disappear and an odd-ball pair of Irish grandparents shows up—who Zack believed to be dead—with even stranger pets in tow. Suddenly Zack, his close friend Penny, and Wally are propelled into a deadly game of cat-and-mouse with ancient and dark forces in a heroic story of magic, deceit, and world domination. As the stakes grow more desperate, readers find Zack introduced to his rich and wondrous magical heritage at Dragonbane—on the flip side of reality—where he soon discovers himself in ways he could never have imagined.

“Gregory has written a well-crafted, entertaining, and thoroughly enjoyable story – a skillful storyteller, his attention to detail really makes the book come alive.” It is remarkable how the author is able to weave a number of different subplots together, taking the reader back and forth between the different scenes without losing momentum or focus, and neatly pulls together all the threads at the end. He has truly created a fascinating cast of characters in an amazing and satisfying read.

G. A. Boyd originally hails from Frankfort, MI. He attended Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan and worked in the Architecture field in his early career. He served as a marine, and is a veteran of Desert Storm. He currently works in the IT field at Ford Motor Company during the day, and haunts FedEx at night as a package handler. He recently launched his career as an author, and this is his debut novel.
