FedEx honored with Anvil Award of Excellence for pioneering child pedestrian safety program

March 12, 2012 - PRLog -- FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. and the world’s largest express transportation company, recently received the Anvil Award of Excellence for the FedEx/Safe Kids Walk This Way child pedestrian safety program.

Now in its 47th year, the Anvil Awards is organized by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines to recognize outstanding public relations programs and tools in the Philippines.

Launched in 2004, the FedEx/Safe Kids Walk This Way program is a pioneer child pedestrian safety program in the Philippines. Since its launch, the program has reached more than 1 million children from 89 beneficiary schools nationwide through classroom teaching sessions and events. The Walk This Way program also contributed to road safety education being integrated into elementary and high school curriculum. As a result of the program, improvements in road signs and walkways were implemented, and physical hazards to child pedestrians were eliminated.

Hundreds of FedEx employees in the Philippines volunteered to support this program, promoting pedestrian safety awareness by participating in classroom education, implementing road interventions, and facilitating pedestrian safety road shows in various parts of the country.
