The USPTO Genetic Sequence Database, USGENE®, was launched in 2007, and covers all available protein and nucleic acid sequences from the published applications and issued patents of the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO), from 1981 to date. The features of the new USGENE BLAST Search Portal include an easy-to-use, project-oriented work-flow, automatic BLAST settings adjustment for short queries, and the capability of multiple sequence upload.  The service also provides seamless links to Espacenet and USPTO original documents, USPTO (re-)assignment data, and organism details in the NCBI Taxonomy database.

The USGENE BLAST Search Portal database incorporates a definitive version of USGENE, with a complete collection of sequence data from “mega” documents, and, for the first time, day of publication updating - Tuesday for granted patents and Thursday for published applications. In addition, a complete bibliographic back file is included, with priority details, patent sequence location, and organism name standardization all available back to the beginning of the database.
