| "The Singer-Songwriter's Last Stand" by Maurice Baker is publishedA singer-songwriter’s eventful journey – both humorous and tragic - based on real events and experiences of the author, and other characters in the music business.
By: Press Office After discovering legendary musician and record producer Arthur Grimsby busking in Newcastle, Alwyn Stevens is torn between giving the supposedly dead old fraudster a good kicking or, like the gullible fool he once was, allow himself to be conned again. During their subsequent travels, both men encounter traumatic upsets, unexpected revelations and even a pot of gold at the end. Despite many disasters the message is hopeful as, in the words of Woody Guthrie (one of many singer-songwriters featured); ‘I hate a song that makes you think you’re no good. Born to lose. Bound to lose. No good to nobody. I’m out to fight those songs…’ This book, though a cautionary tale in parts, attempts to carry on that struggle. The novel, illustrated with simple line drawings, includes factual background information on the some of the artists mentioned and is accompanied by a CD of original songs that inspired the tale. Subtitled ‘Song Tales – Volume One’, the book is the first of a trilogy. About the Author: Maurice Baker was born and raised near London and, after drifting about for years, now lives in Newcastle upon Tyne. Leaving school at sixteen with no qualifications he experienced numerous jobs, finally becoming a teacher and now works in special education. He has subsequently written and directed numerous musical events for both children and adults. This is his first adult novel but he has completed four children’s books and six musical CD/book collections for young people. Excerpt from the book: “Always look for the underlying message, I told myself – accept nothing on face value. This train of thought was short lived however, as I was more concerned with the ‘bastard traitor’ man - and it was a man, that’s one thing I was sure of, and kind of antiquated too. But then… it couldn’t be, could it - my old mate, mentor and adversary, Arthur Grimsby? That was impossible. Although these angry words were the last I’d heard him utter in the flesh - spat out along with a colourful stream of other drunken expletives - but he was long gone, even if his ghost cast a long shadow. Indeed, how could I forget the day back in 1978, standing exposed and alone on the stage of the Marquee Club in London’s Soho with nothing but some daft lyrics and a plastic plectrum to ward off an approaching tide of swaying rock fans?” Media Contact: THE SINGER-SONGWRITER’ http://www.amazon.com/ and from Amazon.co.uk at: http://www.amazon.co.uk/ Media Contact: Publisher: Paperbooks Contact: Lucy Boguslawski E-mail: lucyboguslawski@ Tel. 0207 448 5162 Website: www.songtales.co.uk Blog: http://mauricebaker.co.uk/ End
