March 2, 2012 - PRLog -- Peveril Homes has helped to spread the word about the importance of reading, to the school children of Belper, as it donated books to local schools, as part of World Book Day.

World Book Day is a worldwide celebration of books and reading and is marked in over 100 countries around the globe. A main aim of this awareness day in the UK is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading – with the annual event now entering its 15th year.

To mark this occasion, Peveril Homes donated a collection of books to Pottery Primary School and St John’s C of E Primary School, both located around the corner from Beaurepaire at Alton Manor, the house-builder’s development in the town, as well as Kilburn Infants School.

For the third successive year Colin Wright, construction and technical director at Peveril Homes, also took the time to read a few of the stories to the pupils at Kilburn School. This year he was joined by Peveril Homes’ newly-appointed land director, James Smith.

Colin Wright comments: “At Peveril Homes, we try to play an active part in all of the communities we build and, as our head office is in Belper, we’re always keen to show our support to local organisations. World Book Day, in particular, is such a great initiative, as it highlights the enjoyment to be had from reading books and is something with which we always try to get involved. In fact, it’s my third time reading at Kilburn Infants School and I hope to return in 2013 too.”

Louise Hancock, teacher and literacy co-ordinator at Kilburn Infants School, said: “We’re grateful to Peveril Homes for the generous donation which it has made. Our pupils are keen readers – and reading itself is such an important part of learning. That’s why it’s great that Peveril Homes was able to support us in this area of the curriculum – and the pupils certainly enjoyed listening to the stories which Mr Wright and Mr Smith read to them.”

Peveril Homes’ head office is located in Belper – and the developer is currently building a selection of three- and four-bedroom homes at Beaurepaire at Alton Manor, off Nailers Way. Peveril Homes will be further investing in bringing new homes to the town, when it launches Peak Court, its new development of one- and two-bedroom apartments, off Penn Street, later this month.
