Feb. 13, 2012 - PRLog -- Building Strathclyde SKIL Business School(SSBS) into a top B-School in India, shaping those who will be leaders in a highly competitive, fast-paced global economy – that’s the vision Dean Bhimaraya Metri has for SSBS.And to achieve that goal he faces two challenges – creating a research-focused institute to maintain international standards and accreditations and boosting the school’s visibility while creating a strong bond with industry .Working toward that end,Prof. Metri said in a recent interview the school began by instituting a Masters in Management (MiM) course this year (the first of its kind in India), to be followed by a BBS next year and an MBA and PhD programme in 2013.

The MiM programme features “international curriculum, cross-cultural understanding, global exposure and networking opportunities,” said Prof. Metri, pointing out at the start of the second year, students will spend a term at Strathclyde University business school in Glasgow,Scotlandproviding them with “cross-culture experience along with global exposure while studying with large number of nationalities.” (There are more that 100 nationalities studying at Strathclyde).

This cross-culture learning experience is maintained at the SSBS Indian campus, with 50 per cent of the courses being taught by faculty from Strathclyde University.

Prof. Metri believes there is a large gap between what most Indian business schools provide and what industry truly needs and would like to see an advisory board established with representatives of various sectors of industry in an effort to bridge that gap.He also said he believes most Indian business schools are concentrating on training and consulting, next to teaching, rather than on research and by doing that are not moving toward global excellence.“As you know, to be a global business school, the essential requirement is research publication in leading scholarly journals,” he said.

With his goals of creating a research-focused institute with a strong bond to industry, Prof. Metri said in the future he sees SSBS having “an impressive record of achievement in research and raising visibility”.Coupled with the quality of students he would like to see attending “entrepreneurial in spirit, ethical in focus, and global in orientation” he said “the SSBS is certain to continue to grow in quality and stature.”
