Feb. 7, 2012 - PRLog -- This fall season was all about finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease as more than 60 family members, residents and staff of Edgemere senior living community gathered to support efforts to end Alzheimer’s disease in this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s benefitting the Greater Dallas Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.  For the third year in a row, Edgemere was the largest corporate sponsor raising more than $27,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association. The final donation will include a gift from the Senior Quality Lifestyles Corporation (SQLC) Charitable Foundation which each year matches 50 percent of the funds raised by residents and staff.

“2011 proved to be another great year,” said John Falldine, managing director at Edgemere. “Every year our residents and staff come together for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, and every year, they have an amazing outcome.  Being able to contribute to such a worthy cause is an honor, and until a cure is found, we will continue to do our part.”

In addition to the funds raised by residents and staff, Edgemere also made donations to the Alzheimer’s Association for various sponsorships, such as, the Greater Dallas Chapter Lecture Series and the 2011 Blondes vs. Brunettes Powder Puff football game.

Edgemere’s sister communities, The Buckingham in Houston and Querencia at Barton Creek in Austin, also participated in their respective cities Walk to End Alzheimer’s events.  With all three communities fundraising efforts and the match from the SQLC Charitable Foundation, SQLC will have raised more than $94,500 for the Alzheimer’s Association this year.

In 2008, SQLC founded the SQLC Charitable Foundation, a nonprofit foundation that operates to make grants to and support programs and services that advance the interests of seniors, from Alzheimer’s research to education.

Edgemere is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit senior living community owned by Senior Quality Lifestyles Corporation (SQLC), a Texas-based nonprofit organization that owns sister communities The Buckingham in Houston, Querencia at Barton Creek in Austin, The Stayton at Museum Way in Fort Worth and Mirador in Corpus Christi.  For information, visit www.edgemeredallas.com, or call (469) 619-0825.
