New QTalk Games Help Middle School Students Learn Spanish

Middle School (also called Junior High School) is a time of rapid physical and cognitive development. Using visual mnemonics and games, the QTalk® products make Spanish class fun, even for students with attention disorders or reading delays.

Jan. 12, 2012 - PRLog -- Now that many school districts across the country are introducing Spanish before high school, a growing number of Spanish teachers are finding that the traditional academic textbook approach simply does not work with younger grades. Moreover, students in the so-called 'tween years may lack the self-control to deal with   classroom activities they find to be boring or confusing.

What researchers are recognizing, is that the Middle School (also called Junior High School) years are a time of rapid cognitive development. Emotional and neurological changes within each student will impact the effectiveness of specific teaching strategies or classroom activities. What teachers need is a system flexible enough, to adjust and deploy based on the specific situation in their classroom on a particular day.

Using visual mnemonics and engaging, competitive games, the QTalk language instruction method makes Spanish class fun and rewarding, even for students with attention disorders or reading delays, because each student is able to succeed using his or her strengths. The QTalk® approach is perfect for the differentiated classroom, and provides the teacher with ready-to-use classroom activities with nearly infinite variations and adaptations depending on the students' cognitive framework and the teacher's proficiency objectives for individuals and for the group.

QTalk Publishing LLC announced a new set of Spanish language games for Spring 2012. For the classroom, the Opposites Game uses colorful, oversized magnetic flashcards for use with a magnetic whiteboard, to help students learn pairs of opposites, including feelings, weather, adjectives, adverbs and prepositional phrases. The Write On! game includes a set of 30 game boards and erasable markers, providing each student the opportunity to practice spelling and punctuation along with word recognition and sentence production. The new online games bring the Q-Card word images and characters to life, with native speaker audio and cheerful graphics to hold the interest of students with lively interactive questions and responses.

All products can be purchased online from Connecticut-based QTalk Publishing LLC.

The only provider of core and supplemental Spanish curriculum to enable Maurice Hazan's revolutionary QTalk® method of language instruction, QTalk Publishing LLC develops and tests all of its products in actual classrooms with real students prior to public release.

Maurice Hazan, the founder of QTalk Publishing said, “We know that middle school students present special challenges when they are filled with energy and their minds and bodies are growing and changing so quickly. With our unique system of deeply intuitive visual mnemonics and interactive games, we try to work with their natural curiosity and desire to interact with one another, as well as their interest in computer games and electronic media.

The teacher's role becomes more like a coach, to help the students play the game well, answer questions, and provide encouragement at every success. Learning to speak Spanish will expand the students' cultural awareness; they will appreciate not only Spanish-speaking countries abroad, but also the Spanish language heritage of communities and regions in this country. We want to awaken the language learning capacity within every student, even those who may struggle with traditional academic subjects. That is why the QTalk® method engages every learning style, with visual and kinaesthetic components; immediate oral production results from the interactive, enjoyable classroom activities.”

Middle School and High School Spanish teachers are encouraged to request a free 14-day trial of the Spanish Online Games, and to download free product samples of the Sapling (Middle School and High School) Spanish language products, including the QTalk® Spanish Smartboard lessons for the series: QTalk® Spanish "In Pictures" DLS (Digital Language System).
