Spartan Internet’s SIPP Index to Track 2012 Presidential Candidates Internet Presence

Jan. 11, 2012 - PRLog -- Michigan-based Spartan Internet Consulting continues its widely acclaimed SIPP Index for the 2012 presidential election.

The SIPP Index is the only quantitative metric to measure the Internet-wide performance of each Presidential candidate. The Index consists of over 650 quantitative factors measuring candidates’ influence across the web and their level of support.

Each factor is derived from numeric values such as social network outreach, blog presence, search engine utilization and web site traffic. The scores given to each candidate represents their overall Internet market share and is indicative of their ability to reach individuals online. Data collection started Nov. 14th and will continue on a weekly basis until the presidential election.

GOP voters’ preference for the 2012 nomination, according to Gallup.com, is 31% in favor of Newt Gingrich, leading Mitt Romney, who has 23%. Looking at the data collected using the SIPP Index, Newt Gingrich covers 7.8% of the internet market share leading all Republican nominees. The 7.8% might seem minimal, but that figure competes with Barack Obama’s share of 48%.

Other than Mitt Romney, the candidates fall on the SIPP Index relative to where they stand in the polls. Mitt Romney’s position in the SIPP Index could be linked to the fact that his followers are more affluent, older, and have kids in their household, which may translate to less online interaction. In addition, Newt Gringrich’s followers are 8 times more likely to traffic sites relating to politics and commentary than the average person, and 2 times more likely than Mitt Romney’s followers, according to Quantcast.com.
