Dec. 23, 2011 - PRLog -- In her newly released memoir, The Waiting Room, Ellen Brennan Terich tells a story of loss and sorrow that is also one of hope and healing, a story that will resonate with the millions of daughters and sons who care for their parents in their declining years.
The book begins as Ellen Terich receives an unexpected and troubling telephone call from her eighty-year-old mother who has suddenly become too ill to care for herself and her disabled husband. Ellen's mother is eventually diagnosed with a terminal disease, and a few months later, her father's diagnosis of Parkinson's disease is revised to an even more devastating neurological disorder. As an only surviving child, Ellen puts her life on hold to care for them. Over the next eighteen months, the three family members ride a roller coaster of hope and despair as they struggle to cope with illness, disability, and the end of life, even as they relive the circumstances that fractured the family forty years before, when Ellen's twenty-year-old-brother died.

“Reading this book is a deeply moving, poignant experience,” said Nancy Barnes, Managing Editor of Stories To Tell which assisted in the book’s editing and design. “Ellen Terich’s journey gives the reader insight into the emotional depths of loving and losing your family.”

Ellen Brennan Terich is a mother, grandmother, gardener, and retired psychotherapist and educator. She lives in Southern California with her husband, Anthony.
