Using Media Releases to Climb the Google Ladder

June 4, 2013 - PRLog -- Writing a media or press release and distributing it to press release distribution services is a great way to gain instant exposure for your business and product or service.  What’s more, it’s a fairly easy way to get yourself to the first page of the search engines.  But if you’re going to write a press release yourself, make sure you know what you’re doing.

In today's online environment, it’s best to write your press release as an article where you are the expert being quoted. You’ll want to talk about the benefits of using your product or service in a way that grabs attention.

It's going to be a lot more interesting to the editors who will be more inclined to run a press release disguised as an article rather than an advertisement disguised as a press release.

Now let’s get to the actual structure of the press release.  When thinking about your first paragraph, think about it this way:  if the 1st paragraph of your press release were the only thing that someone read, would they walk away with all the information they needed?  Make sure the first paragraph of your press release answers the all-important who, what, when, where and why questions.

For the middle of the press release, we want to expand upon the beginning and quote ourselves talking about the product or service.  The ending is where we put our company and contact information.

Once you’ve got the beginning, middle and end of your press release written, spend the rest of your time developing a great headline.  You’re looking for an eye-popping headline that grabs not just the editor’s attention but also the reader’s attention.
When developing your headline, you always want to be thinking about it from the perspective of the reader.  Read your headline out loud, and then ask yourself, WIIFM (what’s in it for me?), thinking about it from the readers’ viewpoint.  You want to draw readers into the body of your press release with a benefit-driven and exciting headline.

Once you’ve finished writing your press release, you have the option of getting it distributed via free press release distribution services.  Or you can pay a press release distribution company to (write and) distribute your press release for maximum exposure.
