Dec. 3, 2011 - PRLog -- : In the first of a series of fictional adventures, protagonist Peter Savage uncovers the clandestine motives of an assination ring focused on killing scientists and researchers working on the development of synthetic petroleum.  This plot is traced back to the unyielding power of the OPEC cartel, stretching its grasp of violence across the globe, systematically killing prominent scientists.
“I think that premise is very real, and the technology is within our grasp,” said author Dave Edlund during a recent interview.  “How would the OPEC countries, as well as large oil companies, respond to the threat of losing billions in revenue?  As a country, we strive for energy independence.  But maybe there are unintended consequences of achieving that goal,” said the author.
“Author, Dave Edlund, has created a compelling, five-star novel filled with intrigue and mystery. Unintended Consequences is written in third person narrative and a book that is difficult to put down,” quoted S. Marin Vernon of Pacific Book Review.  “The story keeps you on the edge of your seat anticipating the laws of ‘unintended consequences’ that energy independence, terrorist attacks, and conspiracies, could leave in their wake,” she concluded.
How real is this technology?  Dave Edlund explains, “Fuel reforming is a term used to describe the process of converting carbon-containing materials—such as garbage, biomass, manure, coal, and oil—into hydrogen-rich gaseous products.  It is old technology, and as I mentioned in the book, this technology serves as the basis for production of synthetic petroleum.  The South Africans use this technology to this day, and Germany used it to prolong World War II.  For better or worse, the impact that reforming will have on society is rooted in economics—it is not a question about technology.  As long as petroleum and gas from the ground are relatively cheap, fuel reforming and synthetic oil production have limited commercial scope. “
Unintended Consequences is available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble and other online book retailers.  For more information, please visit the author’s website at: http://www.petersavagenovels.com/
