Dec. 2, 2011 - PRLog -- In a business environment which is increasingly dependent on data and where organisations rise and fall on their ability to protect and build on their intellectual property asset, most CEOs know how important data is. However, many still seem unaware of what they can do to make the most of their assets, including their patent portfolio.

Before embarking on a bid to maximise and capitalise on a patent portfolio or intellectual property, firms need to think strategically about what information is important to the successful running of their future. To help identify this, firms need to think not only about what filed patents or registered trademarks they have, but also the data that they would struggle to run a business without, or which they would find a challenge if provided to their main competitor. This can include specific knowledge within the firm, including branding, skills, contact lists and policies and processes.
