Wells Corner Shopping Center to Host “Ugly” Holiday Sweater Contest for Guinness Book of Records

Nov. 29, 2011 - PRLog -- Event organizers have submitted the contest to the Guinness Book of Records® for the most “ugly” holiday sweaters in one place - be part of the World's Record! Registration is $5 per person and will benefit Goodwill Industries of New England. WBLM 102.9 FM is the event’s media partner.

Event organizers will be handing out first, second and third place prizes for the “ugliest” sweaters. The first place award is a 42” Panasonic plasma TV; second prize is a $100 gift card to Goodwill; and third prize is The Ugly Christmas Sweater Party Book. The first place winner will also be invited to ride in the WBLM van in the 27th Annual Southern Maine Christmas Parade at 2 pm in Wells. All participants are invited to march in the parade. Men, women and children are encouraged to participate. Party Pix®, a division of Jane Berger Photography® will be onsite with a photo booth to take pictures of you and your friends/family in your “best” ugly holiday sweaters!

MJ Dillingham, organizer of the event, wanted to organize a fun holiday event for the community that also benefited a local nonprofit organization. “Goodwill does important work in our Maine communities. Not only do they promote reuse and recycling through their retail stores, but the revenue from their stores helps to fund programs that get people back to work and lead independent lives.” Ms. Dillingham encourages participants to visit their local Goodwill store to purchase their sweaters for the contest. Michelle Smith, Communications Manager for Goodwill Industries of Northern New England, noted that holiday sweaters are a big seller this time of year. “People throughout northern New England host holiday sweater parties this time of year and we love that people turn to Goodwill. Not only can you find that perfect reindeer sweater, but you are also supporting your neighbors and local economy when you shop with Goodwill.”
