Nov. 8, 2011 - PRLog -- The Glyn Memorial Stages of the British Junior F1000 Championship at Anglesey was held over 2 days and included special stages in the dark on Saturday night, 5th November. This was to be Matthew’s final junior rally and with second place in the championship assured, the weekend was all about having fun and going for the win.
Right from the start a close battle at the front developed between Matthew and Josh Davey in his Peugeot 107; a good push on the dark stages at the end of day 1 saw Matthew with an overnight lead of just 3 seconds.
An over exuberant approach to a hairpin at the start of the first stage on day 2, saw Matthew drop a handful of seconds (but entertained the watching spectators!) to drop 3 seconds behind Josh. The next 3 stages saw the battle continue with just seconds between them, unfortunately the close battle between them wouldn’t continue to the end with Josh retiring on stage 13 with broken steering.
Such was the pace of Matthew and Josh that Matthew now had a comfortable lead and was able to ease off over the last few stages, and even indulged in some more exuberant sideways driving to entertain on the way to his third victory of the season.
A great way to end Matthew’s time in junior rallying and a great base to build on for his 2012 plans to graduate to senior rallying.
Currently Matthew is planning to graduate to the BTRDA Rally First championship in 2012 an opportunity to sample some of the best gravel rallying in the UK; to enable this Matthew is currently looking for sponsors for the 2012.
Before 2011 ends, Matthew has a trip to Germany for the World Motorsport Expo where he is shortlisted for young rally driver of the year. Immediately upon his return he will be helping raise money for Children in Need, more details at   http://www.justgiving.com/KDMCRallyCarPull2011
