Pickering’s Lisa Bugeja Tops the Cake on Slice Network’s “Cake Walk”

Oct. 31, 2011 - PRLog -- Toronto, ON – October 30, 2011 – Lisa Bugeja, owner and founder of Pickering-based confectionary design and supply shop Flour Confections, “battered” the competition as she and Matthew Somers of “It’s a Matter of Cake” won the $5,000 first-place prize in the Slice Network’s October 26 episode of Cake Walk Wedding Cake Edition – Fright Night.

It was Bugeja and Somers’ ingenious “’til death do us part” Halloween-themed wedding cake creation that wowed both the panel of judges and the show’s host, Caroline Rhea.

This win comes mere weeks after Bugeja took home second runner-up for her stunning Bridget Riley-inspired wedding cake and first place in Masters Confections for her cookies in North America’s largest cake competition at the Oklahoma State Sugar Art Show in Tulsa October 2, 2011.

Since opening in April 2009, Flour Confections has been celebrated as the place to purchase an assortment of cake decorating supplies and learn the art of cake design by such prominent “celebrity chefs” as Ron Ben-Israel, Elisa Strauss, Toba Garrett and Bronwen Weber (to name just a few).

Bugeja will be travelling to Austin Texas February 25-26, 2012 to the That Takes the Cake Sugar Art Show and Cake Competition (http://thattakesthecake.org/index.php/main/) as well as to the Great Lakes Mini-Classes and Michigan Sugar Art Showcase Cake Competition March 23-25, 2012. Her classes will feature techniques used on her award-winning divisional entries from the Oklahoma State Sugar Art Show 2011.
