Rapid City Heating Repair Company Urges Locals to Schedule Fall Furnace Maintenance

Rapid City heating repair company urges locals in Rapid City and the Black Hills to schedule furnace maintenance to be prepared for winter's first strike

Oct. 28, 2011 - PRLog -- Rapid City, S.D. – Most South Dakotans know that local weather can change in the blink of an eye, and crisp fall air can give way to freezing winter temps overnight. In preparation for the coming cooler weather, the heating repair specialists at All Seasons Heating & Cooling in Rapid City urge homeowners to consider seasonal furnace maintenance.

An annual furnace tune-up can help prevent breakdowns and extend the life of your furnace. A qualified heating specialist can check for major problems, and make sure your heating system is ready for a long Black Hills winter.

A professional can also check and clean your ducts, sealing any leaks to make your heating system more efficient.

“The older your furnace is, the more important it is to have a technician perform a yearly checkup,” said James Buchholz of the Rapid City heating repair company. “As time goes by, your furnace could develop small cracks, allowing carbon monoxide to escape. These cracks can be too tiny for the average person to see, but a technician can check for cracks and leaks to keep your family safe from carbon monoxide poisoning.”

Buchholz and his service technicians may recommend that your furnace be replaced if it is too old or if there are any cracks in the heat exchanger. Currently, Montana Dakota Utility is offering a $300 rebate for those who wish to upgrade their furnace from 80% AFU to 94%.

If a replacement isn’t in the future, Buchholz also recommends some simple maintenance steps that homeowners can perform themselves. Change your furnace air filter each month to make your furnace more energy efficient, save money, and keep dust and allergens from circulating through your home.

In addition, Buchholz urges homeowners to keep to keep their furnace unobstructed, with combustible materials like paint and gas stored in another room. All homes should have a carbon monoxide tester in a room near the furnace.

“We all hate to think that winter is coming, but it’s important not to wait until the last minute to have your furnace checked,” Buchholz said. “If you put it off too long, you could find yourself without heat when you really need it.”
