FELIX was originally drawn by his legendary father, Joe Oriolo, animator of such additional characters as, Casper the Ghost, Chichita Banana, Popeye, Superman and many more. “I Remember when my father used to draw the comic book and the daily strip,” Don said, “I would have a little drawing board next to him. From time to time, when he was looking for a certain action in his drawing, he’d say ‘Donald jump off that chair… or swing that baseball bat or laugh really hard,’ and so I would. He’d draw FELIX doing it, and as crazy as it might seem, it looked like me.” Sparked by overwhelming personal loss, Don, the successful business mind behind FELIX THE CAT Productions and thriving figure in the music business, began painting furiously using the most basic and recognizable symbol of his life, FELIX THE CAT. According to the Artist, “FELIX is definitely my muse for many reasons. For one, that’s kind of who I am: I am the FELIX guy. Also, I can see a lot of myself in FELIX.” The collection of acrylics, watercolors and inks are as charismatic as the character himself, soulful, endearing and of course, magical. The paintings are all personally engaging and, like what’s in FELIX’S endless Magic Bag, an inspiration for anyone.
