The GARTEL ART CARS invade NEW YORK CITY for The 2013 New York International Auto Show

Behind the Blue Door Gallery presents Laurence Gartel, the Father of Digital Art, and TEN of his GARTEL ART CARS at The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center from Friday, March 29th through Sunday, March 31st.

The custom art car is a unique form of American art and Laurence Gartel has pushed the tradition to a whole new level. His collection of visually stunning Art Cars will be taking New York City by storm as Gartel has been invited to show a fleet of his Art Cars as the featured exhibit of the 2013 New York International Auto Show this week (Friday through Sunday) at the Javits Center in Manhattan (655 W. 34th St. New York, NY 10001) in the 30,000 square foot Special Exhibits Hall 1D.

Over 1,000,000 attendees are expected again this year at this largest auto show in the world! Gartel will be on-hand for special appearances and media interviews, which can be arranged through Dana Frank, behindthebluedoor1@gmail.com +1-917-889-1216 (cell/text)

“There is absolutely nothing like these ART CARS anywhere in the world, “ states GARTEL. “If you don’t believe me, take a walk outside. I’ve literally changed the landscape...”

Gartel's exhibit hall is open to the public:

Friday, March 29th from 10am to 10pm
Saturday, March 30th from 10am to 10pm
Sunday March 31st, from 10am to 7pm

Show attendees will be greeted at the main entrance of Special Events Hall 1D by Gartel Art Cars including:

1956 Cadillac Sedan de Ville ("The Love Car")
1963 Chevy Pick Up Truck ("The Green Machine")
1975 Volkswagen Beetle ("The Hippie Car")
1982 Mercedes-Benz 380 SL ("Psychedelic Convertible")
1984 Cadillac Coupe de Ville ("Bling", unveiled Thursday for the first time ever)
2005 Chrysler 300 ("The Fireball")
(model year TBD) Mercedez 430 ("The Tiger Car")
2009 Volkswagon CC ("The Robot Car")
2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ("The Pinup Truck")
2012 Ford Focus Titanium ("Aquatic Adventure")

Special Bonus:

2009 Harley Davidson Road Glide Motorcycle ("The Pirate Bike")

GARTEL’s first commissioned Art Car was for Art Basel Miami Beach two years ago. Within a week, it went viral on the internet. He was then commissioned to produce a Ferrari Scuderia for ArtFellas in Italy. He produced the car live on the internet to over 200,000 viewers and a new medium was born.

If it’s a GARTEL ART CAR, it's a very special and unique vehicle that will make people stop and think that anything is possible. Gartel's exhibit uses the latest lighting techniques plus Augmented Reality technology ( in association with SM Digital Partners - www.smdigitalpartners.com ) to highlight his unique artworks. Show attendees will enjoy a selection of Gartel’s other groundbreaking artistic creations and iconic images that he’s created over the years. Screens will show Gartel’s video artworks, a genre he’s been at the forefront of since the 1970’s. Model hostesses, wearing some of Gartel's latest fashion designs, will be on hand to help answer questions.

On Thursday, March 28th, Gartel will be unveiling his latest creation, the "Bling"car, at the invitation-only International Auto Dealers Association cocktail party, from 5pm-7pm.

The "Bling" after party will be held by Behind the Blue Door Gallery in Gartel's honor at the EMPIRE ROOM, Empire State Bldg., 350 5th Avenue, later that evening.

The public is invited to attend other events within and surrounding the show to meet the artist and view his work.

After his exhibit concludes, and beginning at 9am on Monday, April 1st, the public will see Gartel's Art Car caravan as it parades through NYC, stopping by major museums and cultural centers.

Afterwards, Gartel will lead an Art Car road rally down the east coast of America, staying over at hotels along the way and concluding with a huge bash in Palm Beach, Florida. Video from the road rally will be featured on screens throughout the Javits Center and projected on the highly visible wall across from the main entrance.

According to art historian Pierre Restan: “Laurence Gartel is surfing on the wave of electronic communication through the poetic impulse of his multimedia-language.”

Tom Dupont stated at the Concours D’Elegance Dupont Registry VIP JetPort Event, that “GARTEL single handedly created his own category of collectible vehicle.”
