Oct. 14, 2011 - PRLog -- South San Francisco, CA – October 14, 2011 – OneWorld Health (OWH), a non-profit organization that develops lifesaving medicine for neglected diseases in children, expressed its support for Global Hand Washing Day.

“Every year, more than a million infants and children die because of diarrheal diseases.  The burden of these terrible diseases falls on poor children living and dying in developing countries without access to clean water and good sanitation,” said Richard Chin, MD and CEO of OWH.  “We must work together towards a global solution to make these preventable and treatable diseases exactly that for everyone. We applaud all people and organizations that are dedicated to bringing clean water, good hand washing habits, and improved sanitation to communities throughout the world. These small and simple efforts make a large and lasting impact on the lives of children worldwide.  Please join us today in supporting this effort.”

Advocating Global Hand Washing is only one part of the work being done by OWH. OneWorld Health has been developing an exciting new breakthrough medication to treat secretory diarrhea, designed to be used in conjunction with current oral rehydration therapy and to address the severe fluid loss that accompanies cholera and other secretory diarrheas.  The organization will strive to make this new medication not only safe and effective but also affordable, so that even the most impoverished regions will have access to the treatments for these deadly diseases.
