Sept. 30, 2011 - PRLog -- Spartan Sports Network, the number one source for college basketball radio and Spartan Basketball, has reported that Delvon Roe will no longer be playing basketball for the Michigan State Spartans.

On September 28, 2011, former Michigan State forward, Delvon Roe announced that he will no longer be playing Spartan basketball for Michigan State University. A lingering knee injury has ended Roe’s career and out of respect for his teammates, but most of all his body, he has gracefully bowed out of college basketball.

“I started playing basketball because I loved the game,” said Roe. “But the pain has taken that away and forced me to always think about just getting through the next few minutes or the next game. I don’t want to just ‘get through’ anymore. I’ve played on a leg and a half for most of my career, and that’s not fair to my teammates as they go through the daily grind.”

That’s not saying Roe didn’t try. A degenerative knee injury has been haunting him ever since 2007, during his final and senior year at Lakewood High School in Ohio. Roe only played one game after injuring his right knee. Fast-forward to his sophomore year at Michigan State during the 2009-2010 season when he hurt both of his knees and still lead the team to a Big Ten Championship. But the injuries didn’t stop there. This past summer, Roe severely injured his ankle and earlier this month, Roe’s right knee started bothering him again.

“He probably gave more than 99% of the guys that ever played here in any sport,” said Tom Izzo. “He lied to us continuously on how he was.”

Never missing a game, Roe started 83 out of 109 games, and contributed to back to back Big Ten Championships, two Final Fours and started a National Championship game. Averaging 6.1 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, Roe is the second player in Michigan State’s history with 106 career blocks. Roe will finish out his senior year on scholarship and will travel with the team as they take on the University of North Carolina on November 11, for the innovative Carrier Classic which will be broadcast on Michigan State radio, Spartan Sports Network.
