Sept. 27, 2011 - PRLog -- Montclair, NJ – Hal Leonard Books, the musician’s best source of books on the music business, audio technology, instrument history, and more, has published Making Your Mark in Music: Stage Performance Secrets ($29.99) by Anika Paris. This unique book blends psychology, Eastern philosophy, the art of conversation, and performance techniques valuable to performing musicians of all levels. It reveals the inner workings of performance from an artist's perspective while also functioning as a self-discovery and artist-development journal.

“As artists in music, we are often alone in an ocean of creativity without any guidance,” said Paris. “I’ve been there myself. I had to take my studio-recorded songs to the stage and wear them like a coat, break them in, and make them mine. Over time, I discovered how to do this, and I have always wished I had had a mentor along the way, which is why I decided to write this book. I want to help songwriters and performers find the role they play as artists. Help them connect to audiences by bringing themselves and their individual gifts to the stage. I hope this book will encourage them to get out there and share their music with the world.”

Since the age of seven, Paris has been playing piano and writing songs, as well as singing and performing. Making Your Mark in Music recreates the nurturing approach she experienced growing up with a symphonic conductor father and a poet mother. Three solo records, songs in film and TV, touring the world, and ten years of teaching have all led to this authorship. Making Your Mark in Music serves as a personal mentor for the reader through stories and trade secrets passed down to the author over the years.

The accompanying DVD documents a master-class in which Paris works with students from Musician’s Institute applying concepts, techniques, and methods discussed in the book. Before and after videos of the students’ performances unveil the process of taking a song from the studio and delivering a professional and memorable performance on stage.
