Harare is Making a Comeback

For most tourists coming to the country Harare is nothing more than a staging ground for their ventures into the areas along the Zambian border that are home to the world’s famous Victoria falls.

Sept. 27, 2011 - PRLog -- Harare once was one of the most beautiful and well managed city of Africa with its wide thoroughfares, many gardens and parks and friendly locals but has lost its beauty thanks to the mismanagement by the Zimbabwean government and the deteriorating economic condition of the country. It had perhaps the best road infrastructure in the continent but most of these roads are in a pretty bad shape currently. But the things are changing and they are changing for good as the Zimbabwean government has decided to adopt the US dollar as the national currency which has brought a lot of investor’s confidence back in the economy of Zimbabwe resulting in an improving economy.

For most tourists coming to the country Harare is nothing more than a staging ground for their ventures into the areas along the Zambian border that are home to the world’s famous Victoria falls. But if you can spare a couple of days the old jewel of Africa still has quite a lot to offer to the tourist. You can find a cheap flight to Harare(http://www.travelhouseuk.co.uk/flights/africa/harare.htm) from most of the major European airports, most people use to prefer the Air Zimbabwe as it offers the only direct flight to the city. But recently the Air Zimbabwe has been unreliable to say the least as many of its flights were cancelled in a result of the employee strike and the issues with the authorities of the different airports Europe wide. The other good options can be the Ethiopian and Kenyan airways that don’t offer a direct flight to Harare but are a lot more reliable and comfortable than Air Zimbabwe.

The city has a few decent hotels you can stay in that also include a five star and the great thing about Harare is the low price tag attached to the accommodation facilities. One thing that used to keep the tourists planning for a vacation in Harare at bay was the unbelievably high fuel shortage in the city but with the dollarization of the economy this has become a thing of the past. Most of the large stores in the city accept US dollars and some even accept South African rands but keep your self updated with the exchange rates to avoid being scammed. If you are interested in the history of the country then paying a visit to the National Archives is a must which has a priceless collection of the diaries, chronicles and other historical data from the beginning of the colonial era of the country and even before that. The city was once the center of the arts in the continent and it is still evident from the large collection of some of the best local and international pieces of arts in the National Gallery of Harare.

The city also has a very lively nightlife and you can get a taste of it in one of its many nightclubs and bars but try to avoid walking on the street late at night, if you have to go some where in late hours then try to hire a taxi which for the most time is always a safe option.
