Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort Hosts Mt. Charleston Hill Climb Finish & Oktoberfest Celebrations

Sept. 23, 2011 - PRLog -- Las Vegas (Sept. 23, 2011)—Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort (LVSSR) hosts the finish of the 17.5-mile Mount Charleston Hill Climb 2011 bike race Saturday, Oct. 8, and presents its first-ever Oktoberfest celebration on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011. Both events will be held at the base lodge and scenic chairlift rides will be offered; tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for kids. Children age of 5 and under ride for free.

On Saturday, the public is invited to celebrate with competitors at the finish area of the Mount Charleston Hill Climb from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cyclists registered for the event receive complimentary lunch and chair lift rides. Others are invited to purchase tickets and lunch. An awards ceremony will be held where top finishers will be recognized. Competitors are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes; prizes will also be awarded for the best costume.

On Sunday, the public is invited to LVSSR’s inaugural Oktoberfest from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Local brewery Tenaya Creek will serve its limited-release Tenaya Creek Oktoberfest. Traditional German fare, including bratwurst and sauerkraut, will be served and live music will play on the patio.

“This is a great time to get up to the mountain and experience the fall colors as well as check out the improvements that we’ve been making to the area,” explains Kevin Stickelman, LVSSR’s president. “We’re looking forward to seeing old and new friends at the event.”

On both days, guests will also have an opportunity to pick up season passes at discounted prices, a deal that lasts through Oct 31. Information about new lessons at the ski school, as well as about the new ski racing program for children and NASTAR, the National Standard Race grassroots ski race program — all of which launch this season — will be available.

This summer, LVSSR initiated a $35 million master development plan that will expand the number of trails to 50 and lifts to 10 once completed over the next 10 to 12 years. Skiers this season will find an outdoor

seating area at the base lodge that was expanded to 5,000 square feet as well as five high-efficiency snowmaking guns, two yurts for the expanded youth ski school and beginner programs, a youth racing program that runs for eight weeks in January and February and NASTAR, the National Standard Race grassroots ski race program.
