Drilling mud system is also called drilling fluids system.

Generally, the HDD rig drilling mud system can be divided into four stages.

They are namely Shale shaker, vacuum degasser, desander & desilter or mud cleaner, then the Decanter centrifuge.

Besides, we also need assistant equipments to support the whole fluids processing system.

Mud mixing pump, horizontal or vertical centrifugal pump as well as submersible slurry pump, mud agitator, poor boy degasser, flare ignition device and so on.

The poor boy degasser and flare ignition devices are installed to avoid accident.

Description to the Four Stage Solids Control Equipment5

The shale shaker is the first stage equipments on drilling fluids processing system and the most essential one.

Nowadays, the shale shaker also has different types, such as linear motion shaker, balanced elliptical shaker and the dual motion shaker.

The drilling fluids processing flow into shaker through the high way pipeline.

The drilling cuttings bigger than 76 microns is separated by the shale shaker.

Vacuum degasser will get rid of small capacity invaded gas.

Then the cleaned fluids will fall into the shaker compartment and pumped into desanding cones inlet.

After the desanding process, the fluids go on flowing into the desilter compartment and pumped into desilting cones inlet.

The fluids filtered after desilter process size will be less than 15microns.

The decanting centrifuge is the 4th solids control equipment in HDD rig fluids processing system.

After fluids processing by mud cleaner will be less than 15 microns. The centrifuge can separate solids between 2-7microns.

The speed is an important factor affecting treating capacity and separation size.

1800RPM can separate solids larger than 5-7 microns, and 3200-3500 can separate particles 2-5 microns.

The centrifugal pump is often used in pumping fluids processing for desilter and desander.

Then it will come to submersible slurry pump and the mud mixing pump combined with centrifugal pump, Ventrie hoppers used to feeding fluids processing material, circulate in drilling mud process system.

Sometimes, it can also be combined with shearing pump to do more strong and effective processing.

About the mud mixer, it is usually used together with mud gun as mixing device to make the fluids more even.

Finally the poor boy degasser and flare ignition device, they are specific equipments to avoid accident in HDD rig.

The poor boy degasser gets rid of large quantity invaded gas in fluids processing, and the flare ignition device will burn it up to make the operation safe.
