Increased Speed of the Callaway Legacy Driver

Sept. 22, 2011 - PRLog -- I have hit the Legacy driver for 4 rounds now. The draw bias isn’t an issue at all. Believe me if there was a draw bias issue it would show up quick when I hit it. The square face setup helps a lot. Comparing it to the EMB is interesting as they are 2 different types of clubs. From a distance standpoint it’s a trade off. I can play a controlled draw on demand with the Legacy; The EMB is a straight ball driver. The Legacy has better feel and sound, classic 510 TP like. Both drivers handle the wind well, but the EMB has an edge. Both carry a ton, the EMB has better rollout after it hits the ground.

The Legacy driver comes with either a 45-inch or 46-inch shaft. The marketing literature suggests that a golfer with a stronger swing can expect to get a mid-to-high trajectory with the 45-inch shaft, while the 46-inch shaft is supposedly designed to provide maximum distance, due to the increased speed of its clubhead and the higher trajectory offered by the extra inch. The average golfer who buys into this argument is definitely getting the shaft. The proper shaft length is determined by many other factors, such as the golfer's body height and mass, arm length, and the comfort that a given shaft length provides him when he is addressing the ball--and this is not an exhaustive list.

The Legacy driver has chemical milled head which has allowed them to more accurately place the center of gravity (CG) in an optimal place inside the head… the Hyperbolic face is actually even more evolved than that of the Hyper X… Faster ball speeds and more forgiveness… The average golfer cant hit the ball past 250 yards off the tee so the shaft in these Discount Golf Clubs would be fine for them… for those that need a stiffer shaft, I would be interested to see some reviews on a reshafted Legacy Driver with something like a diamond in it.

As Callaway suggest Legacy driver was certainly long, and this performance was generally maintained on off-centered hits. Although the deep head looks slightly ungainly, it sits comfortably at address and the sound at impact was a lot better than some of the recent Callaway drivers I have experienced.
