Freelance Writer Urges Home Business Owners To Take A Stand For Their Health And Productivity

Working at a standup desk can make a tremendous difference in health, overall energy and productivity.

Sept. 15, 2011 - PRLog -- Running a home business may seem like a dream job. But it comes with its own challenges. It requires determination, energy, good and work habits. And often, with all the items that mount up on the average home business owner's to-do list, health and exercise fall by the wayside. Freelance writer, Sarah Clachar, advises home business owners take a simple step to both improve their health and their productivity: Stand up.  And she provides tools for helping them do so.

"So many of us home business owners think once we start working at home we can exercise more and live a healthier life," Says Clachar. "The reality is much different. Too many home business owners find that they've barely moved from their desk by the end of the day."

"Standing up is an exceptional way to shift your whole workday," she continues. "When you stand up you activate more muscles, you save yourself from back pain, the blood starts circulating, your brain switches into high gear.  You'll find you have more energy and burn more calories just by standing up more often while you work."

Just last year, the American Cancer Society found that people who sit 6 hours or more each day are more likely to die sooner than people who sit only 3 hours a day. And these statistics held true no matter how much exercise participants did. Participants of all fitness levels ended up dying sooner if they sat more.

"Standing up while you work is easier said than done," acknowledges Clachar. For that reason she's put together a series of tools to help home business owners get on their feet more.  Her website offers a free chart to post on the wall, reminding home business owners to stand up and offering exercise suggestions.

And recently, she added some reviews of standup desks.  It seems that many exceptional people worked while standing up – Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams kicked off the American Revolution with standup desks. Leonardo Da Vinci, Winston Churchill, Ernest Hemingway, Vladimir Nabokov and Donald Rumsfeld also used them.

Clachar uses one herself and swears by it. "I'm in good company when it comes to using a standup desk. And I see why. When you stand up to work you are more alert, more productive and – a bonus when dealing with clients and building a business – more confident."
