| Maca Fernandez’s Art Explores Emotional Terrain at Agora GalleryMaca Fernandez is a contemporary artist whose art is related to a linear abstract expression of shapes that conveys feelings and emotions, life experiences and a sense of society itself.
By: Lee Eagle About the Artist Chilean-Spanish artist Maca Fernandez creates fundamentally expressionist images that explore all the feelings and emotions at the core of both societal and individual human experience. She begins with charcoal sketches on cotton canvas and then builds up the image with color, using a limited palette that produces hues both vivid and decidedly sensual. What results is a distinct use of line and color, where all the potential enclosed in the color is able to express itself as it transcends the frontiers of the lines. Used in this way, color becomes one of the main characters of her storytelling, forming a unique symbolism that brings out all the feeling she is trying to convey. Expressionism lies at the heart of Fernandez’s work and is what makes it so compelling. As she explains, “Painting from these emotions has a feeling of eternity, of strength and flexibility, maybe magic.” Her art reflects the beauty and strength that lie within the emotional terrain that, in the end, is the essence of what makes us human.
