A WARDJet waterjet cutting system was used for the past year to intricately cut the almost 3,000 names of everyone lost in attacks on our soil.
By: Jeff Day Several companies and different types of industries have been involved in this memorial project for quite some time. Service Metal Fabricating, a family business in Rockaway, NJ, was honored to be chosen as one of the fabricators for this precious memorial. The company spent most of the past year on this project. They were tasked with cutting all 2,982 names through half inch thick brass plates, each 10 feet by 5 feet, weighing a little more than 1,000 pounds. The goal was that individuals can physically touch each name of those lost at Ground Zero, at the Pentagon, on Flight 93 and also the six victims from the first World Trade Center bombing on Feb. 26, 1993. Heating and cooling units are installed under the brass panels so the names can be safely touched in any kind of weather. We at WARDJet are honored to have played a small part in this memorial, supplying the waterjet used by Service Metal.
