Sept. 9, 2011 - PRLog -- Why Silver as an Investment?

Humanity's timeless obsession with silver stretches back to the furthest reaches of one of mankind's earliest achievements, the ability to manipulate metals.  Silver has been used in jewelry and for other  ornamental purposes for over 6,000 years.  Its use as a form of currency can be traced back as far as 700 B.C., when merchants and traders in the Mesopotamian regions first began using it as a medium of exchange.

From there, the use of silver as a standard of exchange for goods and services spread like fire across the globe.  Silver is so tied to humanity's concept of value that, in over a dozen different languages, the word for "silver" and the word for "money" are one in the same.

On a very fundamental level, silver is synonymous with wealth in the human mind.

It is fitting, then, that this universal symbol of prosperity provides a very real means of preserving and even growing wealth.  Investing in silver has long been held as one of the safest ways of insuring one's finances.  Silver not only maintains value, it routinely increases in value, thanks to the heavy demand for the material for industrial uses, as well as for jewelry and other more routine uses of silver.

What Makes Silver so Precious?

Silver derives its value, in part, from its relative scarcity.  It is estimated that there is less silver aboveground in all of the world than there is gold held just in the vaults of the world's greatest financial institutions.  However, despite its limited and ever-decreasing supply, silver is one of the most affordable of all of the precious metals.  This makes it a viable investment option for investors of all walks of life and of every economic background.

Of course, being in limited supply is not, in itself, enough to make something truly valuable.  A substance has to have some intrinsic value before it becomes a sought-after commodity.  Mankind has always seen silver as being desirable because of its inherent beauty.  It is for this reason that man first used, and continues to use to this very day, silver in jewelry and in other decorative artifacts.

Silver has practical uses, too.  In fact, a large percentage of available silver, much more than is used in jewelry and other decorations, is used in industrial applications.  Its usefulness stems from its many unique properties.  Silver is one of the most supremely reflective of Earth's elements.  It is highly malleable and resists corrosion.  It is an unparalleled electrical and thermal conductor.  Silver has applications in the manufacture of batteries and solar reflectors, specialized bearings, and innumerable electronics.  It is useful in soldering and brazing and is also an invaluable catalyst for certain chemical reactions.  It even has applications in emerging medical and water purification technologies; and still, these uses just scratch the surface of the myriad practical industrial applications for this most precious of precious metals.

Investing in Silver

Private bullion dealer Cornerstone Asset Metals maintains a bullish position on silver moving forward. Silver provides the average investor with an effective way to preserve his or her accrued wealth against the turbulence of a shifting economy.  Investing in silver is a relatively safe means of diversifying ones assets profitably.  Consequently many investors look to Cornerstone Asset Metals for guidance through the precious metals market in regards to silver as an investment.

Unlike many other types of investments, silver carries its own intrinsic value; its value lies in what it is, what it can do, and the fact that it is a crucial part of industry and society.  This makes silver immune to many of the pitfalls that make less tangible investments risky.

Silver maintains value independent of fluctuations in the dollar or the economy.  In fact, silver has a history of gaining value, even when other investments are declining.  It is for this reason that many financial experts advise investors to pad their portfolios with a literal silver lining.
