Katz Fire Safety Director Class Since its adoption in 1973, New York City Local Law 5 has mandated that all Class E office buildings have an FSD in the building at all times during business hours or at any time that the building is occupied by more than 100 persons. The FSD is responsible for implementing the building’s Fire Safety Plan in the event of a fire or smoke condition. The position of Fire Safety Director (FSD) is an integral part of the Fire Department of the City of New York’s (FDNY) strategy to ensure the safety of the occupants of high rise office buildings. The procedure to become an FSD begins with taking a 20 hour course of instruction from a school accredited by the FDNY. To register for a Fire Safety Director Course Visit http://firesafetydirectors.com/ Date Time September 26 – 30 9am-1pm October 24 – 28 9am-1pm November 28 – December 2 9am-1pm December 12 – 16 9am-1pm Emergency Action Plan Directors Training Local Law 26 of 2004 required that the Fire Commissioner adopt standards, procedures and requirements for the orderly evacuation of occupants from any office building, including evacuation of persons necessitated by explosion, biological, chemical or hazardous material incidents or releases, natural disasters or other emergency, or the threat thereof. The final rule requires that owners of office buildings develop procedures for sheltering in place, in-building relocation, partial evacuation and full evacuation of the building, in response to various emergency scenarios. The final rule sets forth specific guidelines and requirements for the form and content of the Emergency Action Plan. The final rule requires the designation of a Fire Safety EAP Director to be authorized to implement the Emergency Action Plan. What is an emergency action plan? (Fire Department rule 3 RCNY 6-02) An emergency action plan describes the actions employees should take to ensure their safety if a fire or other emergency situation occurs. Well developed emergency plans and proper employee training (such that employees understand their roles and responsibilities within the plan) will result in fewer and less severe employee injuries and less structural damage to the facility during emergencies. A poorly prepared plan, likely will lead to a disorganized evacuation or emergency response, resulting in confusion, injury, and property damage. As of October 4, 2010, all FSD EAPD renewals must be accompanied by a certificate showing that the applicant has successfully completed the Building Operation, Maintenance and Recordkeeping Course given by a school accredited by the FDNY. The course consists of a minimum of seven (7) hours of classroom instruction (not including breaks and examination time) for an approximate total of a nine (9) hours. To address the need for training REBNY has partnered with us to offer this mandatory course. Training will be provided by our professional staff of instructors, all of whom have been certified by the FDNY and a variety of local, state and federal agencies. The Building Operation, Maintenance and Record Keeping Training Course is required for all Fire Safety Directors and Emergency Action Plan Directors. Date Time September 13 8am-6pm October 4 8am-6pm October 20 8am-6pm November 8 8am-6pm November 29 8am-6pm October 27 8am-6pm Construction Site Fire Safety Manager Class The position of Construction Site Fire Safety Manager (CSFSM) was created in response to a number of tragic incidents that occurred at construction sties within the City of New York. FDNY regulations now require the presence of a CSFSM at all construction sties identified by the Department of Buildings of the City of New York (precise standards as o the type of construction requiring a CSFSM are expected out by the summer of 2011). In order to acquire a Certificate of Fitness as a Construction Site Safety Manager an individual must attend a seven (7) hour training program conducted by a qualified instructor at a school accredited to teach the program by the FDNY. Our dynamic teaching staff of former FDNY officers will provide instruction in the following areas: -Introduction to the Fire Code and Fire Department Rules, including their organization and terminology. -Fire Code construction site provisions (FC Chapter 14 and 3 RCNY Chapter 14). All construction site fire safety requirements, as set forth in 3 RCNY 1401-01(c).
