Follow on Google News | Don’t judge a book by its coverHertfordshire based Tesco has hired We Are Social to devise and implement a social media strategy for their books department.
By: Victoria Kelly Tesco’s previous history with Facebook and Twitter has not had the greatest record in the past but after the launch of their official Facebook page which focuses on customer relations and deals; its reputation has built up. Currently customers can purchase books online but the company is looking to introduce a book community and seek to do this via Facebook. Customers who ‘like’ their page will be encouraged to review the latest books as well as be made aware of their most recent offers. Rachel Harcourt, adult books buyer at Tesco Books, said: "We want to engage with book-lovers and add value to their online experience in the channels they are already using by listening, responding and developing conversations with them at the same time as building a community around our own blog." It is yet to be determined if this is a trial to see how this specialised page goes down with followers on Facebook and Twitter and if it is a success whether this will then be shared out to other departments. Online marketing job-seekers will want to keep an eye out to see if social media executive/manager job positions start popping up as a result. We may yet see Tesco dominate Facebook with an array of pages specific to different departments of the store.
