Aug. 26, 2011 - PRLog -- S5 Marketing along with a great deal of londoners felt the impact of the riots that began in Tottenham on Saturday 6th August after a peaceful protest in the same area. People gathered for a peaceful demonstration to mark their respects for Mark Duggan who was shot dead by police on 4th August. Mr Duggan was found with a handgun, but investigations show that this was never fired at police before they opened fire. Friends and relatives took to the streets to show unity from Mr Duggan and ask for the Independent Police Complaints Commission to investigate the incident.

S5 Marketing were shocked when what appeared to be mainly teenagers took to the streets of Tottenham, throwing things at police, smashing windows and looting shops. However when the riots came to Birmingham S5 Marketing were taken a back at what seemed to be mindless violence. Many young people were defending themselves by saying that they were showing protest to the lack of employment and ‘disrespect’ shown to them by the authorities.

Police numbers were not enough to control the crowds on the first night of looting and many shops including T-Mobile, JD Sports and Armani were broken into by looters. Thousands of pounds worth of electrical goods was stolen as well trainers, clothes and mobile phones. On the second night the police present over doubled, with West Midlands constabulary been joined by Scottish forces.

Businesses were forced to close early for several days as the fear of more riots lingered, accentuated by rumours via Blackberry messenger and social networking sites such as Twitter. S5 Marketing shut their doors early as electrical shops opposite were hit by looters twice and the entrance barricaded by police and riot vans.

Prime minister, David Cameron, has launched what he calls an ‘all-out war on gangs’ after the incidents across the country. He flew back early from his summer vacation to deal with the problems, which has turned into a critical part in his career as the leader of the country. Many small business owners feel let down by the police as they stood by and watched their lively hoods disappear in the hands of hooded youths. David Cameron has set aside £30 million to help those who will not receive any compensation from their insurance.
