By: Donna Dupuy Marketing/PR A member of the Martin County Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, Oakowsky also serves on the Martin County Construction Industry Licensing Board and just completed a two-year term on the Board of Directors of the Martin County Early Learning Coalition. In addition, she recently established a non-profit organization to provide services to area residents in need of emergency financial assistance and training to improve work and leadership skills. Owner of Oakowsky Properties, Inc., she chairs the Young Professionals Network of the Florida Women’s Council of Realtors and is immediate past president of the Jupiter-Tequesta- Three counties, Martin, St. Lucie, and Okeechobee, comprise the Treasure Coast Community Action Agency, and its nine-member Advisory Board is comprised of three representatives from each county. The Advisory Board is charged with the development and oversight of the Community Services Block Grant services provided through the Treasure Coast Community Action Agency, which receives funds from the federal government through the Florida Department of Community Affairs. Funding varies but for 2010-2011, the total for the three counties was $286,000.00. Community Services Block Grant program funds are designed to provide a range of services to assist low income people in attaining the skills, knowledge, and motivation necessary to achieve self-sufficiency. The types of assistance provided include transportation assistance, nutrition programs, emergency food and housing, and homeless prevention programs.
