Was Ronald Fisher Wrong? – Assumptions of the Parametric Model in Classical Statistical Analysis

This webinar discusses the assumptions of the parametric model: (1) Data fits a known distribution; (2) Factor Independency; (3) Linear Additivity; (4) Homscedasticity; (5) Variables must be Numerical & Continuous. It will also discuss the application of the Parametric Model to "real world data" vs. "perfect data" in a lab, and why Fisher's assumptions can result in significant errors in real-world applications. Finally, the webinar will discuss ways to eliminate some of the potential errors in the application of the Parametric Model to real-world data. This webinar starts Friday August 26, 2011, 12:10PM CDT and ends Friday August 26, 2011, 01:00PM CDT. The presenter of this webinar is Dr. Bob Nesbit, a Sr. Data Mining & Statistical Consultant with Evans Analytics.

Dr. Nisbet has a 25-year academic career in ecosystems analysis and modeling and over 16 years of business experience. He led a team that developed the first data mining solution products for Telecommunications at NCR Corporation in 1998 (ChurnSentry and GrowthAdvisor). These solution products were built on a foundation of customer behavior analysis, similar to models used in animal behavior studies. In addition, he developed ProofPLUS, an extended proof-of-concept product as a part of the ChurnSentry/GrowthAdvisor Program. He has experience in data mining solution development in Telecommunications, Insurance, Banking, Credit, membership clubs (AAA), and Electronics manufacturing. He is the lead author of the book, Handbook of Statistical Analysis & Data Mining Applications (Academic Press, 2009). Currently, he is serving as general editor of a book on Text Mining Applications, to be published in 2011. In addition to data mining solution development and deployment, Dr. Nisbet has considerable experience in developing and delivering data mining tool training classes’ onsite and online, using a variety of data mining tools.

Writing Better Survey Questions

This webinar will help attendees write surveys that will obtain better results that can be effectively measured and applied. In this session some of the basics will be covered: types of questions (i.e. dichotomous, scale, multiple choice) and the data they yield. It will also discuss how to keep people from leaving your survey. This webinar starts Thursday August 25, 2011, 12:10PM EDT and ends Thursday August 25, 2011, 01:00PM EDT. The presenter of this webinar is Steven J. Fink, a Statistics & Analytics Consultant with Evans Analytics.

Mr. Fink specializes in conducting all phases of quantitative research, with a particular focus on survey data. During his 25 year career, he has developed or analyzed over 300 surveys including customer satisfaction, work environment, needs assessment, program evaluation, and compensation surveys for public and private sector customers. He has provided SPSS instruction to more than 3,000 analysts, covering a wide variety of topics, including questionnaire design/writing, sample design, data collection strategies, multivariate analyses, and presentation of tables/graphs. He is also an adjunct Sociology professor at Montgomery College.

In addition to these webinars, the firm recently added a Data Management/SPSS Syntax Course, and is in the process of adding courses in Statistica. The above webinars are just the first in a new series of webinars created by Evans Analytics.
